The Mammoth book of Best New Horror #10
www.amazon.com

An annual collection of short stories and novellas of supernatural and psychological terror by authors such as Ramsey Campbell, Harlan Ellison, Christopher Fowler, Neil Gaiman and Tanith Lee.

Mammoth Horror series is remarkable not only for presenting an outstanding selection of the best in horror and dark fantasy every year, but for doing so during a decade that has not been kind to the genre. As Jones points out in his introduction to this 10th volume, "the erosion of the mid-list and the cancellation of genre imprints" have resulted in the "all-but-collapse of the commercial field." Despite the decline, this multiple-award-winning anthology includes a wealth of fine offerings from both new and established authors. As usual, the volume includes a catch-all essay about horror in the past year. This time, more than a third of the hefty volume is devoted to two novellasAyet the space is well used. The first, Peter Straub's brilliant revenge story "Mr. Clubb and Mr. Cuff" (inspired by Herman Melville's "Bartleby the Scrivener"), has won both Bram Stoker and International Horror Guild awards. The second, "The Boss in the Wall," is a posthumous work of old-fashioned horror from Avram Davidson (completed by his former wife Grania Davis). From the Hollywood noir of Dennis Etchison's "Inside the Cackle Factory" to the starkly eerie "The Dead Boy at Your Window" by Bruce Holland Rogers to the elegant "A Victorian Ghost Story" by Kim Newman, these tales evoke the grand tradition of horror while attesting to its lively and innovative future. Indispensable reading for horror lovers, this anthology and its predecessors must also be credited with having a hand in keeping horror itself alive.

Да ти кажа честно, от авторите съм чувал само Греъм, Матисън, Нийл Геймън и Питър Строб. По - скоро ме привлече, това че не познавам повечето автори, мисля че е плюс за мен.

The Vampire Archives: The Most Complete Volume of Vampire Tales Ever Published (anthology)
www.amazon.com

Penzler's second massive anthology for Black Lizard (following 2007's The Black Lizard Big Book of Pulps) collects an astoundingly thorough and enjoyable set of 86 vampire tales, poems and true stories. Classics such as Le Fanu's Carmilla, Poe's Ligeia and Stoker's Dracula's Guest are nicely interspersed with lesser-known older and newer works. Fredric Brown's Blood, an old-school sci-fi short-short, is a hoot, and D.H. Lawrence's The Lovely Lady is a witty satire that in many ways harks back to Polidori's The Vampyre. Other standouts include Lisa Tuttle's The Replacements, a gothic feminist tale, and Gardner Dozois and Jack Dann's Down Among the Dead Men, a chilling story set in a Nazi concentration camp. Neil Gaiman's introduction and Daniel Seitler's superb 100-plus-page bibliography of vampire fiction round out the anthology.

This collection of more than 80 tales and poems has been meticulously compiled for rabid vampire-lit fans to sample and enjoy. The book is divided into 13 distinct sections. Stories predating Dracula include Edgar Allan Poe's "Ligeia" and Sheridan Le Fanu's "Carmilla." "Classic Tales" features Bram Stoker's "Dracula's Guest," published posthumously and edited from the final draft of Dracula. Unexpectedly included is D. H. Lawrence's "The Lovely Lady," under the heading "Psychic Vampires." Penzler offers up some newer tales with Anne Rice's intriguing "The Master of Rampling Gate," Stephen King's humorous "Popsy," Ray Bradbury's creepy "The Man Upstairs," and Gahan Wilson's chilling "The Sea Was Wet as Wet Can Be." Penzler has also selected works of lesser-known authors but just as varied and pleasurable for horror aficionados. Also not to be missed are the interesting and entertaining extras: the preface by Neil Gaiman, the foreword by Kim Newman, the introduction by Penzler, and the outstanding extensive vampire bibliography compiled by Daniel Seitler. There is a substantial amount of history and lore to be found here about the fictional vampire and its popularity in modern-day culture.

Vampires were invented as objects as horror, and that’s what this outstanding collection delivers most. Since the book is organized by thematic categories, you do get bunches of stories that are more humorous in nature, and a few more romantically inclined, but through and through, ARCHIVES seeks to return the vampire from its current namby-pambiness to its rightful place of menace.
It begins with a large helping of tales that predate Bram Stoker’s DRACULA, with Ambrose Bierce, Edgar Allan Poe’s “Ligeia” and Sheridan Le Fanu’s lesbian-tinged “Carmilla.” Post-DRACULA, there’s M.R. James’ “Count Magnus,” Manly Wade Williams, Algernon Blackwood, Clark Ashton Smith, August Derleth and Stoker himself, with the excised chapter “Dracula’s Guest.
That’s just scratching the surface — one that also houses Clive Barker, Anne Rice, Stephen King, Richard laymon, Robert Bloch, H.P. Lovecraft, Brian Lumley, Dan Simmons, Ray Bradbury, Fritz Leiber, F. Paul Wilson, Richard Matheson, Charles Beaumont, David J. Schow, Ed Gorman, Roger Zelanzy, Harlan Ellison, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle — hell, even D.H. Lawrence! And many, many more, each properly introduced by Penzler.

Love in Vein (Anthology)
www.amazon.com

A sexy new repackaging of the extremely popular anthology of vampire erotica, edited by acclaimed author Poppy Z. Brite.
The classic horror tale is about fear. But in the last few years a new literature of the macabre has arisen, one that goes deeper than horror, beyond fear, to explore our darkest, most intimate hungers. The ones even lovers are forbidden to share.
Acclaimed dark fantasy author Poppy Z. Brite has brought together this genre's most powerful and seductive authors in an original collection of vampiric erotica, a shameless celebration of unspeakable intimacies. It is not for everyone.
But neither is the night.

Like scotch or very dry martinis, these 20 servings of "vampiric erotica" may be for many a resistible acquired taste. Those who do wind up enjoying this controversial new literature that goes "deeper than horror, beyond fear, to explore our darkest, most intimate hungers" may, however, find this anthology intoxicating. In it, the beast is beautiful, a situation probed by Charles de Lint, Gene Wolfe, and less-known others. Celebrating "unspeakable intimacies," the stories explore the subversive appeal of vampirism in all its manifestations as readers meet a color-blind veterinarian mysteriously--and, without regular refills, only temporarily--restored to a world of color by a strange elixir from a prostitute's third nipple; a vampire whose dying, mortal wife has nourished him for years by allowing him to hurt her, then draw her sensations of fear and pain from her for his own sustenance; and a pair of lesbians who literally copulate the father of one to death. Not as mainstream as Ann Rice, this anthology might be most comfortable in extensive and specialized horror collections.

"Thirteen" Volume 1
www.amazon.com

One hundred and thirteen short horror stories from the US and the UK in a monster 500 page anthology.
The controversial first story in this collection, which critics have tried to ban, is perhaps the scariest short story ever written. At just two pages long, it is a story which literally dares you to take part in it. Are you brave enough to accept the challenge?
The usual suspects of ghosts, vampires, werewolves and mad men all feature in the excellent 'Thirteen', and it also offers so much more. The stories within represent the cutting-edge of new horror and are testimony to the imagination and talent of the horror genre's emerging stars.

"American Supernatural Tales"
www.amazon.com

The ultimate collection of weird and frightening American fiction.

As Stephen King will attest, the popularity of the occult in American literature has only grown since the days of Edgar Allan Poe. American Supernatural Tales celebrates the richness of this tradition with chilling contributions from some of the nation's brightest literary lights, including Poe himself, H. P. Lovecraft, Shirley Jackson, Ray Bradbury, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and-of course- Stephen King. By turns phantasmagoric, spectral, and demonic, this is a frighteningly good addition to Penguin Classics.

The Architecture of Fear (anthology)
www.amazon.com

ENTER THIS HOUSE OF HORROR AT YOUR OWN RISK...

In the basement there are soft and slimy things to tempt you... In the hospital you'll meet visitors that are not quite human... You'll enter a place where only witches belong... And the house itself will haunt you.

The master architects of fear will chill and thrill you in this outstanding collection of spine-chilling terror... in a house of horror from which your mind may never escape...

GENE WOLFE, RAMSEY CAMPBELL, CHARLES L. GRANT, SCOTT BAKER, KARL EDWARD WAGNER, JOSEPH LYONS, ROBERT AICKMAN, JACK DANN, JOHN SKIPP and CRAIG SPECTOR, DEAN R. KOONTZ, JOYCE CAROL OATES, MICHAEL BISHOP, JOHN M. FORD, and JESSICA AMANDA SALMONSON

Containing 11 original stories and three reprints, this horror theme anthology concerns itself with haunted houses and haunted minds. Superior stories, including Robert Aickman's "The Fetch" and Joyce Carol Oates's "Haunted," range in style from literary mainstream to "slasher" film graphic, but are well written and ultimately convincing in the worlds they create.

Setting is important in fiction, and perhaps never more so than in the horror genre. This anthology of 14 original stories proves the case. The quality of the selections varies, but there are some wonderful tales here. Particularly impressive are Gene Wolfe's play on fairy-tale themes, "In the House of Gingerbread"; Ramsey Campbell's sad and sinister "Where the Heart Is," about a widower who cannot bring himself to leave his home and memories; "Visitors" by Jack Dann, in which a boy becomes conscious of the dead souls inhabiting the hospital in which he lies dying; and Michael Bishop's sweet, surreal "In the Memory Room," where a corpse wistfully reminisces as she is being made up by a funeral parlor cosmetician. Also particularly good are the stories by Joyce Carol Oates, Robert Aickman and Scott Baker.
